I love JRPG (Japanese Role Playing Games) games, especially Final Fantasy and others of the genre such as Dragon Quest. I was a “late comer” to Dragon Quest games, Dragon Quest VIII (The Journey of The Cursed King) was the first one I played and whilst it seemed a little “childish” compared to the Final Fantasy games it is still enjoyable.
I like Wii games, so I decided to try this game. It’s standard Dragon Quest “fare” with slimes (recurring enemy characters in the series) etc and is particularly suited to the versatility of Nintendo’s Wiimote controller. The game is rated 12+ but I’m not sure why, because to be honest it seems fairly simple for an RPG and I didn’t spot anything that would traumatise anyone under 12! The game comes across as more suited to younger players as well, in my opinion anyway.
The plot is linear and the game is kept relatively simple so I guess Dragon Quest Swords is very much aimed at the JRPG first timer. If you’ve not played this type of game before and you enjoy it then you’re going to just LOVE Final Fantasy, Star Ocean and so on ….
I give it 6 out of 10.
You can purchase this game (I have 1 left, the one I played to make this review!) from eBay for £3.99* or from Amazon of course:
