Summer lovin’, had me a blast
Summer lovin’, happened so fast
Met a girl crazy for me
Met a boy cute as can be
Summer days drifting away
To, uh oh, those summer nights ….
Well, Grease, what can I say? Grease is a musical released in the late 1970s starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. Set in the 1950s rocker Danny meets “good girl” Sandy from Australia over summer vacation and they fall for each other. They both return to high school, neither realising that they will be attending the same school! When they meet again Danny, who is a leader of a teenage gang, has to try and look cool and remain aloof and Sandy becomes friends with a teenage girl gang. Eventually they both try to change themselves to be like each other so they can be together.
Yeah, it’s a cheesey musical, but it’s fun. I grew up in the 1970s (I was 12 or 13 when the film came out) and loved the rock and roll sound and culture of the 1950s era (mainly in part to my mum’s Elvis fandom I would imagine). This was a fantastic film with some fun moments and all the necessary elements for a good musical. It’s a PG rating as there’s a few parts a bit “odd” for younger children but on the whole the family can watch it no problem. I myself saw it at the cinema 5 (yes really, 5!) times ….
I give it 9 out of 10.
You can purchase this film on DVD (the eBay link is to the strongly recommended 2 disc “sing a long” edition) from eBay for £4.99* or from Amazon on DVD or Blu Ray:
